The original Sates Jewellers was opened in 1950, in the small town of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Edwin Warner Sates or 'Winch', as he was known, ran the thriving business with his wife Bobby and soon expanded to two shops.

After Winch passed away, his son, Jonathan, followed his father’s footsteps and became a jeweller - reopening the business in 1997.

In 2021, Jonathan and Linda Sates immigrated to the United Kingdom to start a new adventure and today Sates Jewellers has a new home, in Aldwick, West Sussex.
